{"id":4507,"date":"2020-06-17T21:00:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T19:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/help.metashare.com\/app\/help\/faq\/how-do-i-add-e-mails-or-e-mail-attachments-to-metashare-copy\/"},"modified":"2024-01-16T16:46:49","modified_gmt":"2024-01-16T15:46:49","slug":"what-are-the-requirements-for-coauthoring-in-office-documents","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/help.metashare.com\/en\/metashare\/faq\/documents\/what-are-the-requirements-for-coauthoring-in-office-documents\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the requirements for coauthoring in Office documents?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The requirement for co-authoring in Office documents are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The documents need to be stored in a shared storage area that enables co-authoring (SharePoint Online, SharePoint Server 2019 and OneDrive).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The documents need to be edited in applications that support co-authoring:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Word: On all devices and versions more recent than Office 2010<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PowerPoint: On all devices and versions more recent than Office 2010<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excel: In the the web browser version of Excel and in the latest desktop version of Excel for Microsoft 365<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The documents need to be of these file formats:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Word: .docx<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PowerPoint: .pptx<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excel: .xlsx<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All editors need to have edit-permissions on the documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The documents must not be checked out, encrypted, marked as final or contain ActiveX controls.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The recommended maximum number of concurrent editors per document is 10. However, the limit is 99 and when this number is exceeded, each subsequent user sees a &#8220;File in use&#8221; error and can only open a read-only copy of the document.
